"Go See the Widow", a variant of the better-known "Eighth of January" was recorded in 1976 by collector Bruce Greene from the playing of fiddler Street Phelps (1904-1977), of Todd County, southwestern Kentucky. The title also appears in a list of traditional Ozarks Mountains fiddle tunes compiled by musicologist/folklorist Vance Randolph, published in 1954.
