Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune appears in print in London publisher J. Johnson’s Choice Collection of 200 Favourite Country Dances, vol. 6 (1751) and in David Rutherford’s Compleat Collection of 200 Country Dances both Old and New, vol. 1 (1756). The tune was entered into a number of English musicians' manuscript collections of the late 18th and first half of the 19th century, including those of Yarker (Cumbria), John Rook (Waverton, Cumbria, 1842), Joseph Barnes (Carlisle), Rev. Robert Harrison (Brampton, Cumbria, 1820), Thomas Sands (Lincolnshire), William Clarke (Feltwell, East Anglia), H.S.J. Jackson (Wyresdale, Lancashire), John Clare (Helpston, Northamptonshire). American versions under titles "Maid of Argyle's (The)" and "Muldoon's Favorite" appear in the Boston-based Elias Howe company publications.
