CROSS HANDS, THE. English, Country Dance Tune (whole time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody was first published by Charles and Samuel Thompson in their third country dance collection (London, 1773). It also appears in the 1788 music manuscript commonplace book of John and William Pitt Turner, fiddlers from Norwich, Conn., along with several other tunes from the Thompson's collection.
