MEADOW , THE (An Moinfheir). Irish, Reel. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune is included as a Seán Ryan (1919-1985) composition called "Trip to Nenagh (The)," in Ryan's posthumously published collection Hidden Ireland (1988). Ryan recorded the reel in 1972 as "Trip to Nenagh," however it had previously been recorded by Finbarr Dwyer and John Regan as "The Meadow." The surviving Dwyer brothers, Richard and John (both composers themselves) insist that it was, in fact, composed by Finbarr.

Source for notated version: Jim McElhone (County Derry) [Mulvihill].

Printed sources: Bulmer & Sharpley (Music from Ireland, vol. 3), 1976; No. 40 (appears as "An Moinfheir"). Mulvihill (1st Collection), 1986; No. 89, p. 23.

Recorded sources: Outlet Records, Finbarr Dwyer - "Pure Irish Traditional Accordion Music" (1970). Comhaltas Records, John Regan - "Fleadh '70." Outlet Records, Finbar Dwyer - "Irish Traditional Accordion." Outlet LP, Seán Ryan - "Back Home to the Cliffs of Moher" (1972. Appears as "Trip to Nenagh").
