BIRD CATCHERS, THE. AKA - "Birdcatcher (The)." English, Country Dance Tune (2/4 time). C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. "The Birdcatcher" was printed by the Thompsons in London in the 1770's, and included in their 1780 country dance compendium. It can be found in a few musicians manuscript collections, including William Clarke of Lincoln (c. 1770) and an anonymous music ms. from Yorkshire, dated to the late 18th century[1] As "The Birdcatcher" it was also entered in the mid-19th century music manuscript of William Winter (1774-1861), a shoemaker and violin player who lived in West Bagborough in Somerset, southwest England.
