CAPTAIN ARCHIBALD STEWART 72nd HIGHLANDERS. Scottish, March (cut time). A Mixolydian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB'. "Captain Archibald Stewart 72nd Highlanders" was composed by Perthshire fiddler-composer biography:Duncan McKercher/McKeracher (spellings vary) (1796-1873). Some of his tunes, such as this one, were adopted into piping repertory. There is scant record of an Archibald Stewart in the 72nd Regiment of Foot, or The Duke of Albany's Own Highlanders, but the name is a common Scottish name.
