CATCHING OF FLEAS, THE. English, Country Dance Tune (6/8 time). England, North-West. F Major ('A' part) & D Minor ('B' part). Standard tuning (fiddle). ABB (Sharp): AABB (Knowles). "Catching of Fleas" first appears in Playford's Dancing Master, fourth edition (1670), and was retained in the long-running series through the 10th edition of 1698. It was dropped from subsequent editions, along with the similarly titled (and perhaps companion tune?) "Catching of Quails".
