DOCTOR [1], THE. AKA and see "Gollochy's Farewell," "Balvenie Castle." Scottish, Strathspey. B Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. Credited by Gow to the great strathspey composer William Marshall (1748-1833) when published in the former's Repository, Part Third, third edition (1806). Gow did not credit Marshall in his earlier editions. Marshall's own earlier titles for the melody were "<incipit title="load:Farewell" width=850 link="'s Farewell">Gollochy's Farewell</incipit>" and "<incipit title="load:Castle" width=850 link=" Castle">Balvenie Castle</incipit>."
