DR. WHYTE. Scottish, Strathspey (whole time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. "Dr. Whyte (North View, Elgin)" was composed by Aberdeenshire fiddler-composer wikipedia:James_Scott_Skinner (1843-1927). Dr. Whyte is listed among those who were patrons or paid tuition to the dancing academies that Skinner and his wife ran in Aberdeenshire. George Whyte was a medical doctor in Elgin, who served as house surgeon to Gray's Hospital and charity establishments and who contributed to journals[1]. Dr. Whyte was also an inventor; he proposed a system of automatic railroad semaphore signals for safety, invented improvements in electric lights and lamps, and received one-half of a patent for a photographic bath. Unfortunately, he must have run into financial difficulties as there is a notice dating November, 1884, that his estates were sequestered by the Sheriff of Elgin, against his creditors.
