GUARD HOUSE, THE. AKA and see "Soldier's Dance (1)," "Marchioness (The)," "Hullichan Jig," "Chelmsford Races." English, Scottish; Jig (6/8 time). B Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune dates to the latter 18th century, first appearing in a Skillern collection of 1776 (London). Robert Petrie printed it in his 1st collection of 1790, under the title "Marchioness (The)," while John Watlen and James Aird published it as "Soldier's Dance (1)" in their 1790's collections. "Hullichan Jig" is cognate in the second strain only.
