HONOURABLE GEORGE MURRAY (THE). Scottish, Jig (6/8 time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. There are two candidates for the person of the title. Sir George Murray [1] (1772–1846) was a British soldier and politician from Scotland, second son of Sir William Murray, of Ochtertyre, 5th Baronet. He served in the British army in a number of posts, rising to the rank of Major-General, and served with Wellington in the Peninsular Campaign during the wars with Napoleon. The title may also honor George Fredrick Augustus John Murray, son of James Murray, Lord Glenlyon, and Lady Emily Percy, who was born 1814 and who became 2nd Baron Glenlyon in 1837.
