IRISH-AMERICAN REEL [1], THE. AKA and see "Deirdre Shannon's," "Great North Reel," "Narrowback (The), "Reel des moissonneurs (2)." American, Reel. USA, New England. F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. New York musician, researcher and writer Don Meade identifies this as a version of "Lee's Double Clog," (AKA "Narrowback (The)") also printed by Ryan (p. 160), and says it was a favorite tune of New York fiddlers Larry Redican and the late Andy McGann (d. 2004). In 1936 Quebec accordion player Tommy Duchesne et ses Chevaliers du Folklore recorded the tune under the title "Reel des moissonneurs (2)" on Starr 16407-A (78 RPM). The title is usually applied to another Quebecois reel (see "Reel des moissonneurs (1)"), and Duschenes' use of it for "Irish-American Reel" seems unique.
