LADY STORMONT'S STRATHSPEY [1]. Scottish, Strathspey (whole time). G Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. The Lady Stormont of the title was perhaps the second wife of David Murray (1727–1796), 2nd Earl of Mansfield, a British politician, who succeeded to both the Mansfield and Stormont lines of the Murray family (inheriting two titles and two fortunes). After the death of first wife Henrietta Frederica in 1766, Murray remained unmarried for a decade, but in 1776 he wed the Honorable Louisa Cathcart (–1843), third and youngest daughter of Charles Cathcart, 9th Lord Cathcart, and a woman 30 years Murray's junior. Louisa inherited (under a special remainder in the letters patent) the earldom of Mansfield created in 1776, and became the second Countess of Mansfield. The couple had five children (a sixth child, female, was the product of Murray's first marriage). Louisa survived her husband by 47 years and took a second husband (her cousin-german, the Hon. Robert Fulke Greville) in 1797. When she died at age 85, she had at least twenty-five grandchildren and some great-grandchildren.
