LEITH HALL. Scottish, Strathspey. F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. Composed by William Marshall (1748-1833). Leith Hall is in Huntly, Aberdeenshire, and was for several centuries the home of the Leith Hays, dating from 1650. Hay of Rannes was present at the baptism of Marshall's employer, Alexander, the 4th Duke of Gordon, and was reported to have been an ardent Jacobite. He was also seven feet in height (Cowie, The Life and Times of William Marshall, 1999).
