LORD DUNDEE'S LAMENTATION. AKA - "Lord Dundee's Lamentation, Killed at the Battle of Killiecrankie" (old title). Scottish, Air. A Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). One part. "In this conflict the clans of the West Highlands, representing the Stuart cause, defeated the forces rallied to support William of Orange under Major General Mackay. The famous 'Bonny Dundee' led the victorious army, but was killed in the battle, 27, July 1689 (Williamson)." The tune was preserved in Edinburgh musician, composer and publisher Daniel Dow's c. 1775 collection, and likely derived from harp repertoire.
