MISS PRINGLE'S MINUET [1]. Scottish, Minuet (3/4 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Scottish musician and dancing master James Gillespie entered this melody into his 1768 music manuscript collection, now known as The Gillespie Manuscript of Perth. Miss Pringle must have loved the dance form, which was considered staid and "old school" by the 1770's, for no less than three minuets by leading composers of the day were named for her.
