MISS SALLY HUNTER OF THURSTON'S JIG. AKA - "Sally Hunter of Thurston." Scottish, Jig (6/8 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. A popular jig composed by Edinburgh fiddler-composer and bandleader biography:Nathaniel Gow (1763-1831) whose dance band was resident in the city's Assembly Rooms for three decades, and whose reputation extended to London. Thurston House was a country estate near Dunbar in East Lothian held at the time of publication of Gow's Third Collection (1792) by Robert Hunter. 'Sally' probably refers to Sarah Hunter, the only child from Robert's second marriage to Margaret Robertson.
