MORTON'S MAGGOT [2]. English, Country Dance Tune (whole time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody was first published in London by John Johnson in his A Choice Collection of 200 Favourite Country Dances, vol. 3 (1744) and subsequently by John Walsh in Fourth Book of the Compleat Country Dancing-Master (1747) and Edward Cave ("Sylvanus Urban") in the periodical The Gentleman's Magazine (1753). It was also entered into the music manuscript collection of flute player John Hoff (1776–1818) of Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
