MUNRO'S REEL. Canadian, Reel (2/4 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Composed by pianist Waldo Munro (1930-2006), who for some two decades was a member of radio and TV fiddler Don Messer's band, the Islanders. Munro was born in Westville, Pictou County, Nova Scotia, and as young man had a reputation as an excellent baseball pitcher. He was influenced by the Harlem stride style of piano playing, in particular the music of Fats Waller, and incorporated the sound into his accompaniment with Messer's band, which he joined in 1951 and stayed with until the band's demise in 1973.
