PHILADELPHIA MARCH. American, March (cut time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). "Philadelphia March" was published in Exeter, N.H., in Samuel Holyoke's The Instrumental Assistant, vol. 1 (1800; p. 39), which may have been its earliest appearance. However, the piece appears in numerous American musicians' manuscript collections from the turn of the 19th century and the first decades of the 19th century. "Philadelphia March" was also published in a few collections of fife and marital music of the early 19th century.
