PRINCE GEORGE'S BIRTHDAY. English, Country Dance Tune and Triple Hornpipe (3/2 time). G Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. This triple hornpipe and country dance tune ("Longways for as many as will") appears in all four editions of London publisher John Young's Second Volume of the Dancing Master (1710–1728). Young was heir to the Playford music publishing concerns. It was also published by rival London music publisher John Walsh in his own Second Book of the Compleat Country Dancing-Master (1718).

George Augustus, Prince of Wales (later King George II)

The title honors George Augustus (1683–1760), Prince of Wales, who became George II, King of England in 1727. George was the last King born outside of England, and was born and raised in northern Germany. His birthday is Oct. 30th on the old-style Julian calendar and Nov. 9th on the Georgian calendar (England made the switch in 1752).
