RED RIVER WALTZ [1]. Canadian, Waltz. C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. The composition is someties credited to Manitoba Metis fiddler Andy De Jarlis (1914-1975), who recorded and popularized it, along with the recording by his contemporary, Maritime fiddler Don Messer (1909-1973). However, the tune is listed as "Traditional" in Messer's 1980 Anthology, and De Jarlis is only credited with the arrangement on his 1975 London Records LP (he is listed as composer on other tunes on the recording). However, De Jarlis did compose several tunes named for places in his home in the Red River Valley area of Manitoba.
