REEL ST-SIMÉON. AKA and see "6ème partie de Quadrille à la Soucy," "Ronfluese Gobeille (La)," "Snoring Mrs. Gobeil." AKA - "Reel de St-Siméon," "Reel Saint-Siméon," "Saint-Siméon (1)." French-Canadian, Reel (cut time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB: AABBCC: AA'BBCC'. The "Reel St-Siméon" title is from the repertory of fiddler Jos (Joe) Bouchard (1905-1979) who recorded it in Montreal in 1938 for Victor Records (issued on their subsidiary label, Bluebird). The first two strains of the tune, however, are credited to fiddler and lumberjack Wellie (sometimes 'Willie' or 'Willy') Ringuette (1898-1969, Trois-Rivieres, Québec), who recorded the two-part reel as "Ronfleuse Gobeil" in 1927 (Columbia 34109-F [1]), along with a third strain borrowed from the Irish reel "Maid Behind the Bar (1) (The)." Ringuette passed it on to his violin student, Jean Carignan, whose own recording of "Ronfluese Gobeille (La)" helped to popularize the tune in modern times. His contemporary, fiddler Isidore Soucy (1899-1963), recorded it as "Gigue des vieux souliers," while Jean Morin released it as "6ème partie de Quadrille à la Soucy."

Saint-Siméon, Charlevoix-Est, is a town on the north bank of the St. Lawrence River, above Quebec City and opposite Rivière-du-Loup on the far bank. It named after Saint Simeon of Jerusalem.
