RISING OF THE SUN [2], THE. AKA - "Codiad yr Haul." Welsh, Air (6/8 time). B Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody was published in a volume by William Bingley called North Wales…delineated from two excursions, vol. 2 (1804), in a section entitled “Sixteen Admired Welsh Airs” (p. 12). Handel introduced the tune in one of his operas, and it was performed as a grand chorus at Drury Lane around the year 1815 in a production called Pitcairn Island.
