RU' GLEN LUMS. Scottish, Strathspey (whole time). F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Ru’glen is a contracted form of Rutherglen, near Glasgow, while a lum is a chimney or a chimney-stack. The late 19th century poet Robert Bennett (b. 1855, Linlithgow) mentions 'Ru'glen's lums' in his poem "Song of the Brass Cock on the Steeple":
I ne'er mind the sounding drums
Cannons' roar and broadswords' rattle;
Blithely reek ault Ru'glen's lums,
Merry gangs the weaver's shuttle.
