RUSSIAN DANCE [1], THE. English, Country Dance Tune (2/4 time). C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody was originally published by Charles and Samuel Thompson in their Compleat Collection, vol. 3 (London, 1773). It appears, along with numerous other tunes from the Thompsons’ 1773 collection, in the 1788 music manuscript copybook of fiddlers John and William Pitt Turner (Norwich, Conn.).
