SALTASH. English, Country Dance Tune and Hymn Air (2/4 time). England, Cornwall. F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'BB. The tune begins on the relative minor, but resolves to the key of 'F' major. Saltash is a town on the River Tamar in Cornwall, on the border with Devon. The melody was used for Hymn No. 261 ("Light of those whose dreary dwelling", by Charles Wesley 1707-88) in the Methodist Hymn-Book (1933), sourced to the Plymouth Collection(United States) in 1855. However, it has also been used for the hymns "Pleading Savior", "Holy patron, thee saluting," "Jesus calls us o'er the tumult," "Jesus our divine companion," "For the life that you have given," and others.
