SHELBURNE REEL. Canadian, Reel (cut time). B Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCCDD'. The tune was first recorded by Canadian fiddler King (Ameen Sied) Ganam (1914-1994). Ganam was born to Syrian-English parents in Saskatchewan, Canada, and was taught to play by local old time fiddlers. By the age of nine he was performing on the radio and in the 1940's had his own Western style band. After winning a band competition in 1950 he was signed to RCA Victor Records and toured throughout Canada as well as broadcasting on radio and TV. Ganam then starred in 1961 on CTV's The King Ganam Show. In 1962 he moved to Carlsbad, California, but returned to Canada frequently to record and perform for the rest of the decade. He was one of the original inductees in the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame in 1989.
