VALSE DES OPELOUSAS. Cajun, Waltz. USA, southwestern Louisiana. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). One part. The town of Opelousas, Louisiana, takes its name from an old Indian trading post; the name is Indian for "dark or murky water," states Raymond Francois. The original 1959 recording was among the first records to be made by Floyd Souleau's Ville Platte studio.
