VANHALL'S MINUET. English, Minuet. C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. "Vanhall's Minuet" was published in Francis Werner's 8 favourite cotillions, 9 country dances and three minuets : with their proper figures for the harp, harpsichord, or violin : humbly dedicated to the nobility and gentry, subscribers to Almacks, Festino & c. and perform'd at the Dutchess of Devonshires ball (London, 1782). The melody also appears in the late 18th century instrumental tutors Preston's New and Complete Instructions for the Hautboy (1780), Samuel, Ann and Peter Thompson's Compleat Instuctions for the Clarinet (1785), Preston & Son's New and Complete Instructions for the Clarionet (1797), and Goulding's New and Complete Instructions for the Violoncello (1799, p. 15). It was entered into the copybooks of Ensign Thomas Molyneaux (Shelburne, Nova Scotia) and English musician John Shepherd (c. 1787).

The title probably refers to Johann Baptist Vanhal (1739–1813), a musician and prolific composer born in Nechanice, Bohemia. The English music historian Charles Burney visited Vanhal in 1772. Vanhal died in Vienna, where he resided and worked.
