WHY SHOULD I BE SO SAD ON MY WEDDING DAY? Scottish, Air. An oft-repteated assertion is that the melody was rung out by the bells of St. Giles in Edinburgh to signal the Union between Scotland and England in 1707. An apparently deliberate expression of ambivalence.
