WIDOW GIN THOU BE WAKING. AKA - "Widow are Ye Waking?" Scottish, Air (4/4 time). D Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). ABCD. The tune was first published in John Playford's Collection of Original Scotch-Tunes: Full of the Highland Humours, for the violin [1] (London, 1700, No. 32, p. 14). The song was thought by John Glen (Early Scottish Melodies, 1900) to predate Playford's printing, which Glen considered a more 'vocal' version than that in the Scots Musical Museum. See versions by James Oswald and Robert Burns under the title "Widow are Ye Waking?"
