AWAY MY GALLANT PAGE. American, "Gallopede Waltz" (2/4 time). C Major. Standard tuning. One part. From the music manuscripts of Setauket, Long Island, painter and fiddler William Sidney Mount, on a page dated 1840. This English song was "adapted to the celebrated 'Galopede'" by songwriter Wiliam Ball (1801-1878) in 1828. It begins:

Away! my gallant page, away!

The clarion sounds afar;

I see the victor's proud array

Returning from the war.

The heroes throng the shining strand,

Thy valaiant lord is there;

And thy shallt from his lady's hand

The promis'd greeting bear.
