CHICANEUSE, LA. AKA and see "Bass Jig (The)," "Bonhomme et la bonne femme chicaneux (Le)," "Grondeuse (La)," "Growling Old Man," "Growling Old Man and Grumbling Old Woman (The)," "Grumbler (The)." French-Canadian, Reel. A chicaneuse is a litigious or quarrelsome woman. The tune is a member of a large family of tunes in Quebec (but not limited to Quebec) that go by such titles as "The Grumber," "La Chicaneuse," "La Grondeuse," "Growling Old Man and Grumbling Old Woman," and similar titles. They are characterized by distinct high and low parts that purport to describe an argument between two people. See also the similar "Moineau Lamoureux" from Gaspesie fiddler Yvon Mimeault.
