DALLAS RAG. Old-Time, Country Rag. USA, Texas. F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The city of Dallas, Texas, was named for an American vice-president, George Dallas, though the name Dallas itself has Celtic origins (the town of Dallas is in Morayshire, Scotland) and means "meadow by the wood" (Matthews, 1972). The Dallas Stringband was an African-American group, featuring mandolinist Coley Jones, and (at this time) probably Sam Harris on guitar and Marco Washington on string bass. The group recorded the side for Columbia in Dallas, Texas, in December, 1927.
