DAVY'S REEL. AKA "Ownie Davie's Reel," "Ownie Davis' Reel," "Owney Davy's Reel." Irish, Reel. D Mixolydian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Philippe Varlet says the tune was recorded by Chicago fiddler John McGreevy in 1974, playing with Seamus Cooley, on which it is called "Ownie Davy's," from his source for the tune, Owen Davy. It was earlier recorded as part of a set called "McGreevey's" in 1972 by fiddler Sean Ryan and accordion player Pat Lyons (with pianist Kathleen Ryan). It also appears in Larry McCullough's tin whistle book, says Philippe, and that it has been lately in the repertoire of northern Irish fiddlers such as Mairead Ni Mhaonaigh. A private recording of Michael Coleman playing this reel together with "The Colliers" was donated in 2019 to the John J. Burns Library of Rare Books and Special Collections at Boston College.
