DEAR MEAL (IS CHEAP AGAIN), THE. AKA and see "Lucy Campbell (2)," "Cairngorum," "Leap Year (1)." Scottish, Reel (cut time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. biography:Donald Grant (c. 1760-1830's), in whose c. 1820-21 collection "The Dear Meal is Cheap again" was published, was an Elgin fiddler-composer and dancing master who dedicated his collection to Mrs. Col. Grant of the Castle Grant family. A penciled note in the collection suggests that it was first published around 1790, but republished in 1820-21, although many of the titles in the collection refer to persons of the early decades of the 19th century.
