DORSINCILLY (The End of the Valley). Scottish, Strathspey. A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABCCD. Composed by the great Scots fiddler-composer J. Scott Skinner (1843-1927), named for a farm near Ballater, Aberdeenshire. Skinner's manuscript copy [1] directs that it is to be played 'with fire & force'. The piece is dedicated "to the late lamented Laird o' Logie." The name Dorsincilly is an adaptation of the Scots Gaelic dorsan seilich, meaning "doors or passes of the willow," which may refer to an ancient crossroads [Macdonald, Mackinnon & Troup, Place Names of West Aberdeenshire, 1899].
