DOUBLE ENTENDRE, LA. English, Country Dance Tune (2/4 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody was first published in John Johnson's Choice Collection of 200 Favourite Country Dances, vol. 6 (London, 1751). It subsequently made the rounds of all the London music publishers of the time, with subsequent printings in John Walsh's Compleat Country Dancing Master, volume the Fifth (London, 1754), David Rutherford's Complete Collection of 200 of the Most Celebrated Country Dances (London, 1756), Charles and Samuel Thompson's 1757 country dance collection, and Thorowgood & Horne's guitar tutor of 1763.
