DUKE OF CUMBERLAND. Scottish, Strathspey. D Mixolydian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. William Augustus, one of the Dukes of Cumberland, a son of King George II, earned the sobriquet "The Butcher" for his harsh repression of the Highland population after the Battle of Culloden in 1745.
