Scott Skinner (1843–1927) in honor of Field Marshall Earl Haig (1861–1928), the Commander-in-Chief of the British forces during the First World War. Skinner originally titled the piece "The Chief o' Bemersyde (A War Sermon)," and said of it) "A great effort, I think." (Skinner was never one for being humble).
