EARL OF LEVEN'S FAVORITE. Scottish, Strathspey. E Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. Composed by Scottish fiddler, composer, music publisher and bandleader Nathaniel Gow (1763-1831), third son of the famous Niel Gow (1727-1807). A new Earl of Leven (pronounced 'Lee-ven') came to the title in the year or two prior to the issuing of Nathaniel Gow's Sixth Collection (1822). He was David Leslie-Melville, the 8th Earl of Leven, 7th Earl of Melville (1785-1860), a career naval officer and later a Scots representative peer and deputy-lieutenant of Fifeshire.
