EDITOR'S FAVOURITE. Canadian, Strathspey (Pipe Tune). Canada, Cape Breton. A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB (Cranford/Holland): AABB (Dunlay & Greenberg/MacDonald): AA'BB' (Dunlay & Greenberg/Morris). The 'B' parts in Cranford/Holland and the Fr. Morris setting in Dunlay and Greenberg are different; Holland identifies his as a "Down North" Cape Breton setting as contrasted to the more common Inverness setting (as, for example, played by Mary MacDonald), and indicates the turns are reversed.

Sources for notated versions: fiddler Mike MacDougall (Ingonish, Cape Breton) [Cranford/Holland]: Fr. Angus Morris and Mary MacDonald [Dunlay & Greenberg].

Printed sources: The Cape Breton Collection of Bagpipe Music, p. 17 (appears as "Traditional Strathspey). Cranford (Jerry Holland's), 1988; p. 2 (appears as "Traditional Strathspey"). Dunlay & Greenberg (Traditional Celtic Violin Music of Cape Breton), 1996; p. 29 (two settings).

Recorded sources: ACC 4925, Tara Lynne Touesnard - "Heritage" (1988). Celtic CX 13, SCX 57, Rodeo Banff RBS 1257, Donald MacLellan - "The Music of Cape Breton" (c. 1950's. Appears as unlisted 2nd tune in "Moonlight Clog" medley). DMP6-27-2-4, Doug MacPhee (appears as "A Mabou Coal Mines Strathspey). Rounder 7005, Carl MacKenzie - "Welcome to Your Feet Again" (1977. Appears as "Traditional Strathspey). Smithsonian Folkways Records, SFW CD 40507, The Beaton Family of Mabou - "Cape Breton Fiddle and Piano Music" (2004).
