ELEGANCE AND SIMPLICITY. AKA - "Eloquence of Simplicity." American, Country Dance (2/4 time). C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The country dance "Elegance and Simplicity" appears in several Massachusetts country dance publications dating from 1799 to 1807, beginning with John Burbank's New Collection of Country Dances. for the Year 1799 (Brookfield, Mass.). In the music manuscript copybook of fiddler Eleazer Cary, of Mansfield Conn., entered at the end of the 18th century, the country dance tune appears as "Eloquence of Simplicity", a far better title.
