FALLEN CHIEF, THE. Scottish, Slow Air or Lament (6/4 time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). One part. Composed by J. Scott Skinner (1843-1927) as a dirge in memorial of dancer and piper Willie MacLennan who died tragically in Canada while touring with Skinner in 1893. He wrote the tune on the back of a letter [1] that he sent to his pupil, James McPherson of Kirriemuir.
