FALLEN HERO, THE. Scottish, ("Pathetickly") Slow Strathspey. A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. Composed by Nathaniel Gow (1763-1831), fiddler, composer, music publisher and bandleader; son of the famous Scots fiddler/composer Niel Gow. The title refers to the much lamented death of the British naval hero, Lord Admiral Horatio Nelson. The tune is very similar to Alexander M'Glashan's "Miss Wellwood's Fancy," printed in his 1786 collection; some even cry plagiarism by Gow.
