FASCADH A' LEINE. Irish, Reel. Ireland, County Donegal. Caoimhin Mac Aoidh (1994) retells Vincent Campbell's story of the origins of the tune title in a chance meeting of two women who were washing clothes and a fiddler from the Croaghs. The three began chatting and one of the women lilted a reel. This inspired the fiddler who had not played the tune in some time, and he brought out his instrument, which in turn motivated the women to dance a two-hand reel. They incorporated their work into their fun, however, and while dancing took a shirt between them and wrung it tight during the movements. They had no name for the tune so the fiddler called it "Fascadh a' Leine."
