FINNIN' HADDIES. Scottish, Strathspey. E Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. A finnin' haddie is a smoked fish, a Findon haddock, named for the village near Aberdeen where the process originated. The strathspey was composed by either biography:Carl Volti, born Archibald Milligan in Glasgow in 1849. Alternatively, the strathspey may have been composed by his son who was also named Archibald and who took the similar professional affectation "A. Maurice Volti". The Voltis composed many tunes found in the Kerr's collections and also published several tutors, albums of popular songs, national overtures, etc., and had a music establishment together in Glasgow, where Archibald Sr. was advertised as a "Composer of Music" and "A. Maurice Volti" as a "Teacher of Music."
