FLOWER OF FINAE, THE. Irish, Air. The song is from County Cavan. The theme is a young woman's anguish over her lover who fails to return from the war. She becomes a nun, but eventually goes to seek him, only to discover him mortally wounded on the battlefield. The setting is the 18th century, during the time of the Wild Geese.
