FLOWERS OF REDHILL [1] (Bláthanna an Chnoic Rua). AKA and see "Anderson's Reel (3)," "Don't Be Foolish," "Hod Carrier (The)," "Jilly Neary's Favourite," "Mike Anderson's (2)," "Maids of Fair Hill," "Maids of Palestine," "Mullin's Fancy," "Paddy Taylor's Reel," "Queen of May (The)," "Wild Irishman (6) (The)." Irish, Reel. A Dorian (Armagh Pipers, Breathnach/vol. 2, Flaherty): A Mixolydian (Breathnach/vol. 3). Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB (Armagh Pipers): AB (Breathnach, Flaherty). The reel is associated with County Sligo. Galway flute player Tom Morrison recorded it on a 78 RPM disc in New York in the early 1920s as "Maids of Fair Hill," and flute player John McKenna recorded it in 1928 as "Flowers of Red Mill." Breathnach's two settings of the tune (CRÉ II and CRÉ III) are from the same district in Ireland, and he prints another version in CRE II (279) as an untitled tune.
